Signs of a Healthy Pregnancy in the First Trimester

Finding out you are pregnant is one of life’s most exciting moments — but it can bring a wave of questions too. Is everything going as it should? Are my symptoms normal? The good news is that for most women the first trimester progresses beautifully, and understanding what is happening in your body can be incredibly reassuring.

What Happens in the First Trimester?
The first trimester covers weeks 1 to 12. Your baby develops from a tiny cluster of cells into a fully formed foetus with a beating heart, developing organs, and tiny limbs — roughly the size of a lemon by 12 weeks.
Signs Your First Trimester Is Going Well
Nausea and morning sickness — a sign pregnancy hormones are rising as they should
Breast tenderness — one of the earliest signs of pregnancy
Fatigue — very common as rising progesterone levels slow your body down
Frequent urination — completely normal as blood volume increases
Food cravings and aversions — hormonal changes at work
A heartbeat detected at your early scan — one of the most reassuring signs of all
What If I Have No Symptoms?
Some women sail through the first trimester with barely any symptoms — this is completely normal too. Absence of symptoms does not mean something is wrong.
Get Reassurance with an Early Scan
